Dad had a good way of making you feel better when you got hurt. After showing some genuine concern for what had happened, he'd say "Well, don't worry, it'll feel better when it quits hurting". You'd have a leg all scratched up and bloody or something, you'd be crying and he'd give you this bit of comfort. When you stopped to think about what he'd just told you, the response would be "well of course it would feel better when it quit hurting." The obviousness of the statement would make you laugh or at least stop crying temporarily.
